2026 marks another year that EGT Solar has again been recognized as a Best of Boise winner, and we are reminded of those who make our work possible: the homeowners, families, local businesses, and neighbors who trust us to be their partner when making their energy decisions.
For the EGT team, the Treasure Valley is our service area, but it’s also our home. And we care deeply about the people and places that comprise this community. Our team lives here, we raise families here, and we support our local economy. These local connections impact how we approach solar: with accountability, an education-first sales approach, and respect for our customers.
These are also some of the same reasons why we don’t knock on doors.
Solar Should Be Community-Centered, Not Driven By Quotas
If you’ve seen solar salespeople knocking on doors in your neighborhood, that’s because they have returned to parts of the Treasure Valley. And we’ve seen it before — solar door-knockers often make big promises, with offers that are difficult to evaluate on the spot during a rushed conversation. This approach has left many homeowners skeptical of the solar industry, and we understand why.
A decision about rooftop solar affects your home, your budget, your relationship with your utility, and sometimes your household plans for years to come. This decision should be made carefully, rather than at the urging of a stranger who appears on your doorstep with a script and a deadline.
That has never been how EGT Solar operates. We don’t knock on doors or cold-call homeowners. And we don’t believe in pressuring anyone into making a decision about solar before they have all the information they need to move forward confidently.
Rather than manufacturing urgency, we invite people to come to us when they’re ready to learn. Whether you have questions about your electric bill, are considering a future household project, are interested in battery storage, or are trying to understand whether solar makes sense for your property, our job is to provide you with clear, useful information so you can weigh your options without rushing to make a decision. Solar is a long-term investment, not an impulse purchase!

We’re a Local Company That Stands Behind Our Work
There’s a major difference between a solar company that is based in the community and a sales organization that arrives in town, signs projects quickly, and moves on to the next market. When a business is local, its reputation is personal.
EGT Solar has established our business on relationships throughout Boise and the Treasure Valley — relationships that many of us have built over generations. The majority of our team is from this area, with EGT’s co-owners having been born and raised in Southern Idaho, and our general manager growing up in Boise’s North End. We also strive to give back to our local communities by supporting charities for children, military veterans, the elderly, and other local causes and events.
Our customers are never anonymous transactions. They are our neighbors, friends, local business owners, family connections, and the people we see regularly in our community. This means we cannot (and do not) disappear after the installation of a solar energy system.
If a homeowner has a question about their system, utility billing, maintenance, monitoring, permitting, or the next step in the process, we’re here to answer it. If their circumstances change and they need to make adjustments to their system, we’re here to help. If a customer needs service or help understanding their investment years down the road, our Meridian showroom is just a phone call or a short drive away. We’re accountable to our neighbors and our community, and we’re proud to say that.
Why We Don’t Knock On Doors
Door knocking itself doesn’t necessarily mean a company is dishonest. But homeowners should be cautious when someone arrives uninvited and asks them to make a quick decision about an expensive and long-term home upgrade.
Reputable solar companies will never pressure a customer to sign a contract before they’ve done their due diligence. Instead, they should welcome informed questions.
What To Ask a Solar Representative
A conversation about rooftop solar should allow for questions such as:
- How much electricity will this system realistically produce?
- What portion of my energy use will solar offset?
- How will my utility’s current billing and interconnection policies affect my system?
- What assumptions/math are being used in projected savings?
- What incentives may apply to my household, and which ones aren’t guaranteed?
- Who will be responsible for answering my questions after installation?
- Is this company established locally, licensed, and available to support this system over time?

Be aware: a pitch given at your doorstep often can’t answer those questions with the level of care they deserve. It’s always a good idea to take some time to decide if and how to proceed.
Important Disclosures to Be Aware Of
Idaho’s Residential Solar Energy System Disclosure Act requires that solar retailers provide a separate written disclosure statement before entering into a solar agreement. This disclosure includes information related to estimated savings, assumptions behind those estimates, electricity-rate assumptions, incentives, system production data, and other important terms. That disclosure is worth reviewing carefully. After all, solar isn’t one-size-fits-all, and homeowners should understand the details about an agreement before they sign.
If someone tells you that solar will eliminate your electric bill without explaining the system’s design, energy production assumptions, utility rules, financing terms, or what fees will remain on the bill, it’s perfectly reasonable to pause and ask for more information.
Education First, Sales Second
Rooftop solar can be a valuable option for many Idaho homeowners, but it should be designed around the home and household energy use. To do that, we must understand the property, which includes details like the condition and orientation of its roof, shading, existing electrical equipment, current energy use, future plans, and available space. It also requires honest discussions about the utility side of the equation. Solar production, compensation structures, net billing or net metering arrangements, fixed charges, seasonal usage, and future energy needs all should all be a part of this conversation.
We don’t believe in pushing solar onto every homeowner. Our goal is to help each homeowner understand whether it’s right for them.
For one household, solar may be a good fit because of their long-term energy use, a suitable roof, and their desire for energy independence. For another, it may make sense to wait, address roofing or electrical work first, improve energy efficiency, or reconsider once their circumstances change.
An education-first approach creates room/space for people to make important decisions like these on their own timeline. We’d rather earn trust through a helpful conversation than win a sale through high-pressure tactics.
The Future of Solar in the Treasure Valley
The rooftop solar industry has grown quickly, and with that growth has come many options for homeowners. Some companies have built strong local reputations and delivered quality work. Others have relied on aggressive sales tactics, unclear claims, outsourced installation, or a business model that leaves homeowners scrambling to find service after the original seller is gone.
Oftentimes, this means that local solar professionals like EGT are contacted after a rooftop solar array and battery have been installed by another company, with a request for service, or to help customers understand why their system may not be performing.
While we’re always happy to help, we also see that some bad actors have damaged the reputation of rooftop solar in the Treasure Valley. And we believe the best way to improve this reputation is to raise the standard for how it is sold, designed, installed, and supported.
To do that, solar companies like ours must work responsibly with homeowners, utilities, inspectors, permitting authorities, and the local professionals who help make safe, code-compliant solar projects possible. EGT Solar regularly attends the Idaho Association of Building Officials (IDABO) conferences to help clarify standards for solar and battery systems in our communities (and we’re the only solar installer to do so).

Raising the standard also involves supporting practical solar policy in Idaho. EGT is proud to have been the catalyst — from both a time and a cost standpoint — in fighting net meter reform here in Idaho, and we’ll continue to fight to keep Idahoans’ right to install solar and get equitable terms for excess generation with Idaho Power. We also worked closely with our state representatives and on behalf of our community to ensure the passage of Idaho Code § 55-3208, which states that homeowners associations (HOAs) cannot ban or prohibit the installation of rooftop solar panels.
Our stance is, and always has been, this: homeowners should be able to adopt solar without unnecessary obstacles, and they should be able to do so with accurate information in hand, and backed by a company that will still be around after the project is complete.
Thank You, Boise
Being named by our community as Best of Boise is important to us because this recognition comes from the place we care about most. We’re grateful to every customer who has trusted us, referred a friend, shared their experience, asked thoughtful questions, or welcomed us into their home. Referrals account for approximately 70 percent of our business, and we don’t take that trust lightly.
We are proud to be a solar company that is locally owned and operated, and we are proud to take a different approach: one of education and community first, and not of high-pressure sales tactics like door-knocking or cold calling.
When you’re ready to explore solar, drop us a line. Ask questions, compare options, and learn what’s realistic for your home. EGT Solar is a local team that’s here to help you make an informed decision, without pressure and without any surprise visits at dinnertime.
Start the conversation by requesting a no-pressure estimate, or visit our showroom at 401 N. Main Street in Meridian, Idaho.
